Bill Shore

Bill Shore, director of U.S. community partnerships at GlaxoSmithKline, with Eleatta and his dream painting, "I Dream of Freedom"

Artist Eleatta Diver hosted a gala reception at Bay 7 at American Tobacco Campus last Tuesday evening to honor those whose visions for our city inspired her to paint the “Durham Dreams” series, on display at the event.

Guests were invited to mix and mingle while viewing the paintings and learning about the dreams that inspired them. Eleatta asked some of the most influential members in the community what their dream for Durham would be, then interpreted that dream onto her canvas.

In attendance was Mayor Bill Bell, along with several of the “dreamers,” including Reverend Ernie Mills, CEO and founder of the Durham Rescue Mission; MaryAnn Black, associate vice president for community relations for Duke University Health System; Bill Kalkhof, president of Downtown Durham, Inc.; and Bill Shore, director of U.S. community partnerships for GlaxoSmithKline.

"Durham Dreams" also represents a dream for East Durham Children's Initiative, as the first $10,000 in profits raised from the sale of replicas of the paintings in the project will benefit an EDIC summer program.

View our slideshow from the gala, featuring Eleatta, her paintings and the dreamers that inspired her.

With this ring, we thee wed

The Rev. Carl Kenney makes the Marry Durham event official by putting a bull ring in Frank Stasio's nose. It pinched a bit, Frank said, but well worth it.
