Mindy Kaling, an actor, writer and producer on TV's The Office, is the latest artist to compile a personalized CD for Durham label Merge Records.

Kaling, who plays Kelly Kapoor on the NBC hit, will compile songs from the Merge catalog, design the CD's cover art and offer some bonus content.

She is the 14th "curator" to participate in Merge's SCORE! project, part of the celebration of the label's 20th anniversary. What is Ms. Kaling's connection to Merge, one might ask? Well, the bio she sent to Merge included the nugget that she plays "ethnic percussion" for Arcade Fire, one of Merge's top-selling artists.

Kaling joins an exclusive curator list, featuring REM's Peter Buck, SNL alum Amy Poehler, former Talking Heads frontman and music legend David Byrne and comedian and North Carolina native Zach Galifianakis.

Merge publicist Christina Rentz said the bonus efforts so far have been cool, including a "weird little video" from Galifianakis. (Not at all surprising if you're familiar with Mr. G.'s work.)

Merge will sell the curators' CDs, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to a charity of the artist's choice.
