Fashion Friday: Collegiate Apparel Shop Opens Downtown
School House of Ethical Fashion, a university-licensed clothing and accessories retail shop, is officially open for business today. The shop, located at 407 N. Mangum St., offers t-shirts, hoodies, yoga pants, lounge wear and the likes to represent area schools including Duke, UNC, N.C. State and Wake Forest. Rachel Weeks, founder and president, acknowledges that most of the store's clothing is geared toward college-age women, but she says guys can find cool items there as well. She also hopes to include 40 additional schools by the fall.
Durham Magazine's senior editor Lisa Rossi first introduced Rachel and School House of Ethical Fashion in a December blog post when Rachel was transitioning her Greensboro-based company to Durham. Rachel started the apparel company in 2007 when she traveled to Sri Lanka as a U.S. Fulbright Scholar on a mission to bring better collegiate apparel to her alma mater. Moreover, she pays premium prices to her suppliers to ensure that the people who work in the manufacturing facilities producing her brand are paid living wages. The store is open Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm. By the way, if you mention Durham Magazine when you go, you'll get 10 percent off your purchase.
