The new Ambassador Team starts making Durham clean and safe today! Call 919-682-BULL to report any downtown issues.
Visitors to downtown soon will encounter Clean and Safe Ambassadors, there to guide, sweep and protect.
Downtown Durham Inc. is assembling the 10-person team, starting with manager Elizabeth Wilson. The initiative is being funded by a special tax approved this year by the City Council that increases the property tax rate of downtown business owners by 7 cents per $100 of assessed value. DDI is partnering with Service Group Inc., a national leader in providing improvement district clean and safe services,
Team members include Wilson, six permanent full and part time Ambassadors and three additional temporary ambassadors. Nine of the new Ambassadors are Durham residents that were recruited directly from the City’s JobLink Career Center system, which assists businesses with recruitment efforts and job seekers with employment opportunities.
DDI manages the team of Ambassadors, who will be in downtown Monday through Saturday from 7am-10pm providing services like cleaning and maintaining public sidewalks and spaces; welcoming and assisting visitors; calls for assistance to police, fire and EMS; removing graffiti from public spaces; power washing downtown sidewalks and more.
Stakeholders and visitors can call the Ambassador Hotline at 919-682-BULL (2855) or visit the website here to report any issues in downtown that need to be addressed.
