Durham Area Designers have been working to make the Bull City Connector shelters more Durham. Two shelters will now feature art that displays scenes of our city's distinguished history, including portraits of blues musicians and references to Durham’s tobacco heritage.
On Wednesday, at 9:30am, the first two shelters, at Oldham Towers and the Durham County Courthouse, will officially be unveiled. Mayor Bill Bell, Triangle Transit General Counsel Wib Gulley, City of Durham Transportation Department Director Mark Ahrendsen and Durham Area Designers President Steven Gaddis will be at the ceremony at Oldham Towers Lawn, 519 E. Main St.
The artists involved in the project are Al Frega of Durham; Christopher Vespermann of Cary; David Wilson of Apex; and Sharon Dowell of Charlotte. Another six shelters will be installed in the next 12 months.
The Bull City Connector is a free service that transports an average of 10,000 passengers each week between Duke University, downtown Durham and Golden Belt.
