Four outstanding Durham Public Schools students have received prestigious scholarships.

Riverside High student Martin Krzywy has won a National Merit Scholarship, while Brittany Salaam of Jordan High and Lindsey Morgan and Adu Laitan Matory of Durham School of the Arts won National Achievement Scholarships. Each student will receive $2,500 toward their college education.

National Merit Schols are "judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies," according to a DPS press release.

“If you need to know something, ask Martin,” Riverside Principal Jackie Tobias said in the release. “He is a well-respected, well-rounded young man who possesses all the tools to be a success.”

National Achievement Scholarships go to scholastically talented black students.

“We are honored to have Brittany, Lindsey and Adu represent our school district,” said Area Superintendent Jim Key. “Their commitment to lifelong learning will propel them to great success in future endeavors.”

In July, DPS will announce winners of scholarhips awarded by specific colleges.
