Harold and Maude

Rachel Klem

Ishai Buchbinder as Harold and Joan Darling as Maude

Ghost & Spice Productions, a long-running member of the vibrant Triangle theater community, kicks off its final season with an adaptation of the film Harold and Maude by Colin Higgins.

Company member and managing director Rachel Klem directs the cult comedy, in which Harold (Ishai Buchbinder), the young, rich and death-obsessed teen, meets Maude (Joan Darling), the lively septuagenarian, at a funeral.

"Ghost & Spice is very excited to be working on the stage version of this iconic, cult film," Rachel says. "It gives us a chance to stretch our technical wings by staging the five mock suicides, as well as focus on strong relationships and top-notch acting. This is our last season and we will certainly be going out with a bang, so don't miss it!"

Opening night is this Friday at Common Ground Theatre, 4815B Hillsborough Road. Performances begin at 8pm Friday and Saturday, as well as October 4, 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13. The performance October 7 begins at 7pm. Tickets are $16, or $14 for students and seniors, with half-price ticket nights for Thursday performances.

UnCommon Ground if you Ask Me

Common Ground always has amazing performers and cutting edge shows but "Harold & Maude" is one of the best plays I've seen there. There is nothing "Common" about it. I've seen the movie and loved it and thought it would be a difficult play to do but the actors in this show make it look easy and fun. It was delightful.
