Benefacting's uncomplicated charity giving model

Benefacting's uncomplicated charity giving model

Need someone to walk your dog? Want to help break the cycle of poverty in urban communities? Now there's a way to do both at the same time thanks to Benefacting.

Benefacting is a Craigslist-style website, created by Trevor Little and Brad Lindsay, where the money from the goods and services sold goes directly to a charity.

Trevor and Brad are computer coders by occupation, but Good Samaritans by nature. They created the website to encourage community involvement and support for Triangle-area, needs-based charities through simple transactions and unselfish acts.

The idea is straightforward: An “Actor” posts a service they are willing to perform, then a “Sponsor” who wants the service completes the “Benefaction” with a donation to the “Actor’s” desired charity.

“Actors” have posted dog walking services, masonry work and digital cameras for sale. “Sponsors” can end up donating to various worthy charities including; Veterans First, which works to provide services exclusively to the Triangle's homeless and at-risk veterans; Meals on Wheels of Durham Inc., which helps provide proper nutrition to those who may not otherwise receive it; and World Relief Durham, which provides refugee resettlement, immigration advocacy and services, and anti-human trafficking initiatives.
