If you missed the Marry Durham extravaganza on Saturday, you missed the coolest, happiest, funkiest event in city history. (Click at left for slideshow.)
It was such an odd mix of both whimsy and inspiration, as everyone acknowledged the tongue-in-cheek nature of the celebration but couldn't help but be moved by it anyway.
Seeing those 2,000 people - who raised more than $25K for charity - to publicly show such love to this city really was something.
The upcoming April issue of the mag will include some excellent photos and a couple of write-ups about our experiences at Marry Durham.
We talked to organizer May Alexander of MAYDNEW, who told us there are already thoughts about the best way to follow this up. I mean, we can't all marry Durham again next year, can we?
Chances are, May says, this won't be the last you'll hear from this fun-loving grassroots organization. "We definitely want to keep the good feelings going, and there are beginning conversations about what to do next," May says. "Right now we’re trying to enjoy the honeymoon."
