Knight House

Knight House (University House), 1508 Pinecrest Road Built in 1966 by Alden B. Dow, architect. Douglas M. Knight initiated many building projects as president of Duke University, among them a house for the school’s chief executive. Knight and his wife Grace imagined a place for university functions with a private wing for their living quarters. They took to calling it “University House.”

More than 500 people came out to the Saturday afternoon tour of six modernist, mid-century homes in Duke Forest, sponsored by Triangle Modernist Houses and Preservation Durham.

If you weren’t one of the lucky ones to attend, but want to know more about the homes, check out our extensive slideshow, complete with descriptions courtesy of Cynthia de Miranda.
