Monuts Donuts held a soft opening from 4-9pm Tuesday at 110 E. Parrish St., and Durhamites welcomed the newest downtown establishment with a constant line that filed out the door at times. Luckily, co-owner Lindsay Moriarty was manning the register and giving folks their doughnut fix quickly.
After pedaling her traditional pastries and uniquely flavored doughnuts by bike to the farmers’ market and food truck rodeos since 2011 – prepping at The Cookery, naturally – Lindsay and business partner/new hubby Rob Gillespie now have a brick-and-mortar with its own kitchen to peddle those signature Maple Bacon Bourbon doughnuts out of.
Maple Bacon was not on the preview menu last night, but the warm, fluffy Salted Bourbon was, along with Banana Caramel and Strawberry Frosted with Rainbow Sprinkles, all of which we ordered plus a traditional Éclair and a Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar. Because what goes better with a few doughnuts than a beer, am I right? (Milk, hot chocolate and coffee were also available.)
Lindsay says they plan to officially open on Thursday, with their regular business hours being from 7am-2pm every day but Tuesday. The store menu will include doughnuts and pastries as well as bagels, English muffins and breakfast sandwiches. Congrats, Monuts!
