NCCU New Chancellor Reception

Dr. Debra Saunders-White with Dr. Dwight D. Perry, chair of the NCCU Board of Trustees

North Carolina Central University’s newly announced 11th chancellor, Dr. Debra Saunders-White, stood at the end of a very long line of people at the reception held in her honor in W.G. Pearson Cafeteria’s Banquet Hall on Friday.

Each person was waiting to shake her hand and welcome her to the NCCU and Durham community.

“I am so humbled by this experience,” Dr. Saunders-White said during her speech at the reception. “You all have welcomed me this day, me and my family, with open arms and with so much joy.

“I have an extreme passion for higher education,” Saunders-White continued. “It is more important today than it has ever been; it is really our nation’s most prized asset. I will work very hard, I will give you my soul, I will ask only one thing in return: That we demand nothing less than excellence. We will be the crown jewel in the University of North Carolina system, but more importantly, we will become an international force that none can compete.”

Saunders-White will take over June 1 for interim chancellor Charles L. Becton, who replaced retired chancellor Charlie Nelms in August 2012.

Welcome!!

We have a long history of successful women succeeding here at NCCU and you are just an example of the long line of female leaders. As a graduate and the cousin of a former college president ( Dr. Rufus Clement Clark-Atlanta University) daughter of an educator plus many relatives who graduated from Central I wish you nothing but the best of good luck and best wishes.
