The Santa Barbara Collection is a fairly recent addition to the enormously succulent and successful wines made from Central Coast grapes. Their North Canyon Vineyard is adjacent to the Cumaya River, and the more famous (for now) Bien Nacido Vineyard. This wine shouts richness yet remains light on its feet. The price tag as well will not do too much damage.

Pretty, translucent beetroot color. A showy, penetrating nose of intense dark berries, with light rhubarb and leather overtones. Flavors simply glide over the palate displaying spicy, earth-tinged berry and cherry flavors. The sappy mouthfeel finishes up with orangey acids and excellent refreshment. A perfect pairing for Salmon, grilled poultry or a mushroom-lentil concoction. Drink now-2015
