Kim Arrington

Jazz artist Kim Arrington performs in this Saturday's Rock the Park opening concert

In addition to Music on the Lawn and Music in the Gardens, there'll soon be a new music and movies series to help you unwind this summer. Saturday marks the opening night of Durham Parks and Recreation's Rock the Park movie and concert series, which features a free movie or concert at various parks throughout the season.

The concerts will feature a variety of different musical acts and movies - there'll be nights that make you want to get down and boogie, and nights with movies suitable for the whole family. The events take place every other Saturday, with concerts starting at 6pm and movies at 8pm. The opening act this Saturday is jazz artist Kim Arrington, who is performing in Durham Central Park, 502 Foster Street. Check out the full season lineup here.

Cynthia Booth, public affairs specialist at Parks and Recreation, says they hope having the series in different parks will bring folks out from every neighborhood, as well as showcase what each park has to offer. So bring your lawn chairs or blankets, family and friends, and enjoy the sweet sounds of summer. Leave the snacks at home - food trucks will be on hand should you feel the need for a bite.
