I blog, obviously, and sometimes about food. So I felt compelled to go sit under the canopy at the WaDu, overlooking the pristine golf course and have a four-course meal courtesy of Executive Chef Jason Cunningham. I have a really hard job sometimes. Thank you for your sympathy.
Check out the slideshow for pics and some notes on each dish. Overall, you could tell Jason was going for super fresh, light textures punched up with bold flavors. He succeeded just about everywhere, from the strawberry salad given some kapow with feta and vidalia onions to the pea soup made ultra-creamy with marscapone cheese to the candied basil topping the airy angel food cake.
A great experience, and our thanks to the kind folks at the Washington Duke for setting this up. Special thanks to my awesome dining companions: Don Ball, a true food and beverage professional at the inn, Chinmayi Sharma of the Duke Chronicle and Charlie Brinson of the food blog Eat It, North Carolina.
