Syl Johnson

Syl Johnson, who recorded on the Memphis-based Hi Records alongside Al Green, will headline the Eccentric Soul Revue

Come to the Carolina Theatre this weekend to hear authentic Chicago soul as Syl Johnson, The "Notorious" Notations and Renaldo Domino take the stage in Fletcher Hall on Saturday at 8pm in a co-presentation by Duke Performances and the Carolina Theatre of Numero Group's Eccentric Soul Revue.

The three main acts will be backed by the Sweet Divines, a quartet of back-up singers, the six-piece Divine Soul Rhythm Band and an additional four horn players from Durham's own D-Town Brass.

A Chicago-based R&B and soul reissue record label, Numero Group has revived the tradition of classic traveling soul revues of the 60s and 70s- once occupying theaters and high school gyms all over the country - by featuring the three main acts with a band to back them up.

The Eccentric Soul Revue has traveled the U.S. since its inception in Chicago in 2009, bringing Syl, who claims to have more soul than Marvin Gay, and Chicago-based performers The Notations and Renaldo Domino to select venues all around the country.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by calling 560-3030 or by clicking here.

Duke Performances:

Duke Performances in Durham, NC recently presented the Eccentric Soul Revue. Here is another interesting article about him--from our blog, "The Thread":
