I'm honored to be participating in a roundtable discussion Monday at 8pm at Mercury Studio on the state of publishing, with a heavy focus on same in the Triangle.
The event is hosted by Orangutan Swing, the dialogue arm of Durham brand marketing studio Design Kompany, co-owned by the husband-wife team of Dipika Kohli and Akira Morita.
Other roundtable participants include:
• Lisa Sorg, editor of The Independent
• Julie Johnson of All About Beer Magazine
• Photographer John Kessner
• Aaron Mandel of Clarion Content
• Michael Faber of Bound Custom
• Cartoonist V. Cullum Rogers
Dipika got the idea after recently self-publishing a memoir, The Elopement, in e-book form. She's also a former reporter with the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce and the editor of an alternative paper in Ireland.
"On the heels of the sale of the Independent to a publisher on the other side of the country, this public event invites anyone interested to share their thoughts, experiences and ideas about where media is going, how it’s changing, and how our local culture and community will be influenced as a result," Dipika said in a press release.
I'm eager to learn from other professionals, share a bit about our experience as a little start-up pub in Durham, and hear questions from you.
Tickets are $10, and space is limited. Would love to see Durham Magazine readers well represented. Y'all come!
