Seafood and white wine are quintessential summer tastes, and to the crew and regulars at Six Plates, nothing seems to go better with fresh, local seafood at the height of summer than the slightly tart tastes of the Basque wine Txakoli. So, they celebrate the wine with a daylong festival.
This year’s Txakolifest starts at 1pm on Saturday, July 21, at the wine bar, and keeps the celebration going into the wee hours. Twelve bucks gets you in to enjoy the music and buys you a complimentary cider glass to use and keep. The food and wine are all sold separately.
The first session of the festival lasts from 1-4pm, the second session from 4-7pm and a general admission session from 7pm on. You can buy advance tickets for the first two sessions and a limited number of advance tickets for the third session at Six Plates, Wine Authorities and Lucas Gambit Productions. Or, just show up at 7pm the day of.
Bands Newkirk and Andrew Kasab perform during the first two sessions, at 1:30pm and 4:30pm, respectively. The general admission session includes bands The King’s English at 8pm and Jessica Long & the New Kind at 9:30pm. Enjoy the entertainment along with servings of six different types of oysters and other traditional, generally seafood-based Basque tapas. For more information, call (919) 321-0203.
