It's no secret that the Triangle holds the greatest rivalry in sports: the basketball rivalry between Duke and UNC. When UNC and Duke meet each year, it's widely discussed and respected by everyone. Books, YouTube raps and memes have glamorized and honored the rivalry. And now, a new documentary attempts to capture that depth of emotion and passion.
Duke-Carolina, The Blue Blood Rivalry highlights historic moments in the series and displays the passion fans have towards their beloved shade of blue in a 95-minute documentary. Directed by Durham filmmaker Hassan Pinto and created by his company, GreatestFan Films, the feature contains fresh interviews with Roy Williams, Mike Krzyzewski, Phil Ford, Jay Bilas, Eric Montross, Chris Duhon, Antawn Jamison, Seth Curry, P.J. Hairston and many more UNC and Duke greats. Basically, if they're well-known to UNC or Duke fans, they're in there. Basketball announcers such as Dick Vitale, Dan Shulman, Tim Brando and Erin Andrews as well as famous alumni like comedian Lewis Black and recording artist Mike Posner also put in their two cents on the rivalry in the film.
Hassan's movie premieres Monday, March 4 at Tyler's Taproom. Though the premiere in the Speakeasy is private, those who want to watch the movie can do so in the Biergarten. If you can come, dress up in light or dark blue and support your team. If you can't make it, the entire event will be streamed live beginning at 6pm on a Google+ Hangout that can be viewed on YouTube. Check the Durham, NC Where Great Things Happen Facebook page for the link on premiere day. The documentary will also be shown on Time Warner's Cable On Demand Service starting Friday, March 8, and continuing throughout the 2013 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
