The winner of the night. The shank is osso bucco cut, crispy on the outside and falling-off-the-bone tender inside. Atop Old Mill cheddar grits and sautéed spinach with poblano pepper jelly drizzled over everything. Yeah.

The Dish: Dame’s Chicken and Waffle

Dame’s Chicken and Waffles claims its food is “smack yo’ Mama good.” We wouldn’t go quite that far, but we might give Mama a gentle shove if she stood between us and this uniquely decadent and, it must be said, multicultural fare. Located in the heart of downtown, Dame’s seems to have perfected this peculiar soul food combo. True, each meal at Dame’s should come with a complimentary gym membership. But it’s hard to imagine a meal that gives you more bang for your caloric intake!
