ARTS

Line dancers for last year's Battle of the Bands runner-up Augmented Reality of SMT show off what their performance is supporting.

Despite a soggy setting, eight Durham companies came to battle over bragging rights for best corporate band and to support this year's Triangle Corporate Battle of the Bands charity, North Carolina Arts in Action, at the American Tobacco Campus Saturday evening. The nonprofit is dedicated to transforming the lives of children through their participation in the arts.

Although the kids supported by Arts in Action were the true winners of the evening, several bands took away accolades as well. Laura DiCello of Suntrust's band Rock Solid was awarded Best Individual Performance while Shades of Blue of Keysource Bank took second place overall.

And this year's winner of Battle of the Bands, who rocked the stage even as the rain began to pour yet again, was Counting CROs of Quintiles. Their hunger for victory led them to triumph this year...but will they succeed again in 2012?

Check out our slideshow of sponsors, bands and Durhamites who came to cheer on their favorite bands.

With this ring, we thee wed

The Rev. Carl Kenney makes the Marry Durham event official by putting a bull ring in Frank Stasio's nose. It pinched a bit, Frank said, but well worth it.
