The third annual Foodie issue is filled with, well, food!
Editor Matt Dees, a self-proclaimed food truck heretic, took a journey toward conversion, traveling to a food truck rodeo at Durham Central Park, a strip mall on 55, The Regulator, City Hall and Motorco before finally reaching a conclusion. You’ll have to read the full story to find out what that verdict is.
In keeping with outdoor fun, Croasdaile Farm resident Shelly Speer showed Amanda MacLaren and photographer Briana Brough the tricks to throwing the perfect summer party, starting with ways to bring comforts of the inside of your home to the outside. Read about how she manages to keep four teenagers happy to stay at home with Mom and Dad, and how she makes her outdoor space versatile enough so everyone has a good time.
For the gourmand, we’ve featured four local specialty shops where you can find wine, cheese, peanut butter, tortillas, baby toys, candles – almost anything you need or want – plus a bite to eat. Reliable Cheese Company has you covered on the cheese front, head to Bull Street Gourmet & Market for wine and dessert, La Superior for authentic Mexican groceries and Parker and Otis for everything in between!
The issue also features the elegant side of our food scene. Mackenzie Brough photographed delicious dishes from Rue Cler, Watts Grocery, Papa Mojo’s Roadhouse and Fairview Dining Room that are delectable during different times of the day, and blu seafood and bar’s chef Tim Lyons put together a special meal for his regulars.
We’ve also got places to find the tastiest burgers, a visit to the Bull City’s best bars with All About Beer Publisher Daniel Bradford, our annual meeting venues guide, the story of personal chef Zacki Murphy and favorite community spots that patrons frequent for the food, convenience and company.
Mags will be hitting mailboxes soon and are available on newsstands at Sam's Quik Shop, Whole Foods, The Regulator Bookshop, Parker and Otis, Barnes & Noble, Food Lion and Harris Teeter.
