Dog: Maximus ("Max") Human: Kathryn O'Brien Kathryn says: "Maximus is half pug and half beagle. When choosing between him and his brothers, they were all so shy, but Max walked right up to me and started playfully biting my hand. Wise decision or not, I said, 'I want that one.' Maximus thinks he is a very large and dominant dog. That is, except when he’s cuddled up in a ball on top of my bed pillows every evening when I get home from work. He loves to listen to people speak to him and has mastered the cute puppy dog eyes and the tilting of the head in different directions as you speak. He thinks he’s a tough guy, but will then surprise you by side stepping a small puddle on the street just like a dainty little lady. Being half beagle, he has the need to sniff out everything and if let off the leash, will bolt in a second to chase a squirrel down the street. Despite many attempts to secure the back yard, he manages to use the wood pile as a jumping point to get over the fence and roam the neighborhood. He is wild, loving, a snuggle-bug, funny, and the best dog ever."
We hope by now many of you have had a chance to see our November issue, with our cover story of some of our readers best friends.
There wasn't room to include every submission, but we wanted to share a few more of our favorites with y'all online.
Please check out the slideshow for pics and extended descriptions of what makes each pooch special.
